A brand from Micromax, Yu, is all set to launch its second smartphone. Going to be launched on May 12th at an event in New Delhi, the Yu Yuphoria is going to be the successor to Yureka, a device that had a brilliant performance but was not appreciated for a few issues, including the heating issues and battery backup.

One thing that was confirmed already before any leaks were out, was the Android Lollipop OS with Cyanogen OS 12, and what we get to learn from the event, is that the smartphone has a 5-inch 720p display (294 PPI) with full lamination technology. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, for scratch- and fingerprint resistance. The camera has a metal ring around it, called the Saturn ring, and it houses the LED flash.

Cyanogen OS 12 comes with themes, custom gestures and controls, and option to switch between hardware and software navigation keys. There’s an App themer feature as well, for further customization. The camera app now has options to take slow motion videos at 60 FPS / 120 FPS. For security, there is PIN scramble, privacy guard and protected app features. The Email app from Boxer, that was a part of Cyanogen OS 12 release for Yureka and OnePlus One, is going to be come in Yuphoria. The Dialer will come with Truecaller, and will give users a choice to not allow using Truecaller.

This is not an upgrade from the Yu Yureka, as the device comes with a Snapdragon 410 processor (MSM8916), quad-core (ARM Cortex A53) chipset clocking at 1.2 GHz, along with 2GB RAM, Adreno 306 GPU, and 16GB internal storage. The Snapdragon 410 processor is a true 64-bit processor.

YuphoriaWhile there is a 8-megapixel camera on the back (f/2.2 aperture, 1080p video recording), Yuphoria has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for the selfies (f/2.0 aperture, 4P lens, 86-degree wide angle lens). This is a centrally aligned camera, again concentrating on the design part of the device.

The material is a difference this time, as the Yuphoria has a metal design, unlike the plastic on all sides that made the exterior of Yureka. It is said to have gone through several steps of processing to come up with the metal body (includes pre-bending, metal stamping, PVD, Laser welding, etching, Polishing and Sand blasting). Despite having a metal body, this smartphone is 143gm with the battery, and 104 without it.

There is G-sensor, L-sensor, P-sensor, 6-axis gyroscope and an E-compass. On the connectivity side, this is a Dual SIM device, with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity. For the audio, there is Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DCA audio enhancement, for the better experience while using headphones.

Inside the 8.3mm body, is a 2230 mAh battery with quick charging 1.0 technology (zero to 65% in 45 minutes). It is claimed to give about 7 hours of talktime.

Yuphoria is priced at Rs. 6999. Buffed Steel and Champagne gold are the color options for Yuphoria. This entire phone is made in India. The sale is on May 28th, and registrations start today, at 5 p.m.
