Last month, Xiaomi launched a new smartphone under the Mi series called Mi 5X. Though the device looks similar to the flagship Mi 6, it packs mid-range specifications. During its initial launch, the device came with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and is priced at 1499 Yuan (approx $225 / Rs. 14,500). The Xiaomi Mi 5X has received more than 200,000 registrations for the first sale in just 24 hours. According to the Lin Bin, co-founder of Xiaomi, the company has sold almost 3,00,000 units during its debut sale on August 1st.
Now, the company has confirmed to bring an even more affordable variant of the Mi 5X priced at just 1299 Yuan (approx $195 / Rs. 12,500). To bring the pricing down, Xiaomi has decreased the internal storage from 64GB to 32GB. Rest of the specifications remain same on both the variants. Even Xiaomi India is teasing the launch of a new dual camera smartphone in the Indian market. Since the company is said to skip the Mi 6, we expect the Mi 5X to launch here in the coming weeks. The Mi 5X comes with a unibody metal design and offers a 2.5D curved glass on the front.
It runs on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box. The device sports a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and brightness up to 450 nits. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. The Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2 are also powered by the same processor. There is 4GB of RAM which should be good enough for offering seamless multitasking and playing graphic intensive games. Unlike the Mi 6, the Mi 5X comes with expandable MicroSD card slot and 3.5mm audio jack.
On the rear is a dual camera setup featuring 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.6 aperture and 12MP wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, there is a 5MP camera placed on the front of the device. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port. It is backed by a 3,080mAh non-removable battery and supports 5V/2A fast charging. It measures 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm and weighs 165 grams. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear of the device. It comes in Gold, Rose Gold, and Black color options. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details about the Xiaomi Mi 5X!
