Samsung is very popular for its AMOLED panels and a handful of manufacturers are already sourcing it from the company, in order to use it on this handsets. The next one to join the list is the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi. According to a new report which we have, it appears that Xiaomi has signed a deal for AMOLED panels and it has been reported that Xiaomi has ordered millions of panels to be delivered by the end of this year.
According to the reports, Xiaomi has placed an order for 6-inch rigid AMOLED panels. It has been reported that close to a million units will be delivered by the end of this year, i.e. by the month of December and over 2 million units will be delivered by January next year. Now that is a lot of display panels. This is rather surprising since this news is coming directly after the news of Xiaomi trying to source flexible panels from LG broke out.
Previously it was reported that the company had tried to source 5.5-inch flexible OLED panels from LG. However, the deal reportedly fell through as LG’s manufacturing schedule was falling behind. These panels we expected to go on the new Note smartphone from Xiaomi since the current Mi Note has a curved panel sourced from LG. These newer panels were expected to have QHD resolution as well.
However, now the Samsung is reported producing these panels, it remains to be seen if these panels will have FHD resolution or QHD resolution. We also hope Samsung pulls through and deliver these panels on time, which remains to be seen as well. Considering the fact the South Korean Giant is already producing tens of million of AMOLED panels for Apple, we hope the production cycle is not affected. Having said that, it appears that pretty much each and every manufacturer is moving towards AMOLED panels for the handsets.
It has been reported that Apple is also looking to move to AMOLED for all the iPhones. And now even Xiaomi is looking to source these for their smartphones. This is definitely a great news since AMOLED displays are great when it comes to their performance. Having said that, we would like to know your thoughts on this.
