In the month of January, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Go smartphone in Europe for EUR 80. It is the company’s first ever smartphone to launch under the Android Go platform. Today, the company has officially launched the Redmi Go smartphone in the Indian market along with the UPI-based ‘Mi Pay’ payment service. The Redmi Go is priced at Rs 4,499 and will go on sale starting March 22nd via Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home.

While Samsung launched the Galaxy J2 Core Android Go smartphone with Samsung UI on top, Xiaomi decided to go with the stock Android for its Android Go smartphone. Considering its cheap price tag, we can’t complain about its polycarbonate body. While there a few Android Go smartphones with 18:9 display, the Redmi Go comes with the standard 16:9 display. It sports a 5-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by three-year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. As seen on most other Android Go devices, the Redmi Go also comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is also a dedicated MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage up to 128GB. While the Go version apps come in smaller sizes, they also miss out some key features.

The Redmi Go runs on Android Oreo (Go Edition) out of the box. We expect the company to soon roll out the Android 9 Pie (Go Editon) update. Talking about the cameras, the Redmi Go sports an 8MP camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP selfie camera on the front with f/2.2 aperture. The device is kept powered on by a 3,000mAh battery and there is a 5W power adapter within the box.

Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge. There is no fingerprint scanner or face unlock support on this device. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.1, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. It measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and weighs 137 grams. The Xiaomi Redmi Go will be available in Black and Blue color options. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
