Lei Jun, founder and CEO of the world’s most valuable tech startup Xiaomi has unveiled the latest MIUI7 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop on the occasion of MIUI’s 5th anniversary on August 13 in China. Now, the company has just launched the global version of the MIUI7 in New Delhi, India.
As per the companies information, the R&D team of MIUI consists of 750 members. As of now, there are more than 150 million active MIUI users in 156 countries and it is also translated into 32 other languages. The developer preview will be available for Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 3/4/4i, Redmi Note 3G/4G from 24th August.
With MIUI7 Show Time, you can set a video for contacts, so that when you receive a call from a particular number you will be notified with that video instead of the boring ringtones. You can exchange this contact cards with your friends, this feature will be rolled out in the coming months.
In China the company also launched the Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime along with latest MIUI ROM. But in India, the company hasn’t mentioned about the launch of the Redmi Note 2 because of the issue with Ericson over the MediaTek processor powered device patent infringement.
The MIUI7 comes with four different system designs to suit all the needs, the list includes – Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze, and High Life.
MUSE – Theme Builder
For creating better themes for MIUI users, Xiaomi released a new theme creation tool called ‘MUSE.’ It is easy to use and require no knowledge about programming. It supports rich dynamic efficiency to create lighter and interactive themes. By using MUSE, you can create themes with rich animations and dynamic content.
Baby Photo Album
The Baby Photo Album sorts the photos of your baby as a separate folder by using the face recognition technology. It is easy to share this photos with other family members, and you can also set the baby photos as the wallpapers. The app automatically changes the changes the wallpaper to the latest photo of your baby.
The Child Mode for younger parents who want customize the features to be available while their kids use their phone. It gives restricts the access to SMS, Dialer, and other apps that you need keep your kid away from using. By using this feature, there will be no change in the layout of the UI. There are other device manufacturers who already have this kind of feature on their device like ‘Kids Mode’ on Samsung.
When the phone is in standby mode, about 48% of the battery drain is because of the background running apps. This is due to the network scanning, CPU operations like using GPS even not operating navigation, Frequent Wi-Fi syncing and many others that cause the battery drain even in the standby mode. The MIUI7 optimizes the battery that results in 25% more battery life than the MIUI6.
With MIUI7, the user experience has been improved a lot, the startup process for an app has been optimized so that it takes less time to start. It optimizes the system response time by loading data and app animation in parallel. Comparing with MIUI6, the MIUI7 performs 30% faster which can be watched in the above video.
Optimized Font (XXL Text)
For the visually impaired people, even the best-looking smartphones doesn’t offer that much better user interface. As per the company, the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 just make the font larger and larger without controlling the other parts of UI. This is where MIUI7 is the best option for them to use because, the MIUI7 provides the larger font by adjusting the conversation layouts, line breaks to provide greater readability experience.
MIUI Data Saver
Xiaomi along with Opera introduced the Data Saver, Unlike other data saver apps, it compresses the browser and in-app media to save up to 50% of your data usage. It will be rolled out on September 2015 in China, India, Brasil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, andPhilippines.

This feature can be used only by the Mi Band users. When you connect your Mi band with any MIUI7 powered device, it detects your sleeping activity and turns your device automatically to ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode when fell asleep.
The new Mi Roaming app allows use the data packages from Xiaomi to access the internet on your smartphone while roaming. It lets you save the money by using this service as a virtual SIM. As of now this features is only available to Chinese MIUI users.
