Xiaomi Mi4i Smartphone bursts while charging, burns the desk of the owner

Previously we have seen a bunch of news about various smartphone battery exploding while charging etc. Hence it is not surprising to see this again, but it is indeed quite concerning to see how such incidents can occur in no time. If you thought that this issue is history, and nowadays it is relatively rare to see such events, then you are wrong. Last week similar incident happened again, and looking at the video footage of the same, it is indeed very frightening.

This time, this happened with a Xiaomi user named Ajay Raj Negi. He was using a Xiaomi Mi4i in his office last week until suddenly it began to spark and then caught fire. You can check out the CCTV Footage captured by the cameras of the scene when it happened. You can see the user suddenly get off the chair and throwing his Mi4i which is on fire. Soon after him and other people in the surrounding left, when the phone caught fire, and the place was surrounded by dark smoke. This kind of event is indeed frightening to see, but luckily nobody got hurt in this incident.

The user Ajay Raj Negi posted this CCTV footage on Mi Mobile’s Facebook Page. Also, a few images are posted on the same. However, Xiaomi stated that they are currently investigating this issue to find out the root cause of this mishap. But according to the reports, the company might not be the one to be blamed here for this, as there are a lot of factors playing a role in this. Also, note that this not the first time a Xiaomi’s device has caught fire. Previously a similar incident was reported back in 2013 as well.

Even the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ has faced similar issues of catching fire before. Now we just have to wait and see what the company responds for this. Stay tuned for more updates once the company reverts back, after the investigation.

Update: Statement from Xiaomi Spokesperson on this issue: “We take such matters seriously and we have already been investigating the matter. We have been in touch with the customer and will be getting his device this week to do further investigation. In the meantime, we have offered a replacement phone to the customer.”
