Xiaomi has unveiled two new smartphones at its global launch event in Madrid, Spain. The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be the company’s latest Android One smartphones. Last year, the Mi A1 was unveiled as the first Xiaomi smartphone without its in-house MIUI. It is the second best-selling smartphone, only next to Redmi 5A. Now, the new Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will continue to come with stock Android instead of MIUI.
The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are the same Mi 6X and Redmi 6 Pro smartphone launched earlier this year in China. Both the devices will be running on stock Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and will receive at least two major Android updates including the upcoming Android P. First, let’s talk about the Mi A2 that comes with a metal unibody design. On the front is the 5.99-inch Full HD+ (2160 × 1080 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass.
In terms of optics, the device sports dual rear cameras featuring 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture. For selfies, there is a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with soft LED flash. The company is also adding the AI Selfie and AI Portrait modes for capturing better photos. Under the hood, the device comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor.
The device comes in three different storage variants- 3GB + 32GB, 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB. While there is no information about the Indian pricing, the device will start retailing from EUR 249 in Europe (approx Rs 20,000). Coming to the Mi A2 Lite, the device sports modern looking notch display. The 5.84-inch IPS display offers Full HD+ (2280×1080 pixels) resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio.
As seen in the last year’s Mi A2, the new Mi A2 Lite also comes powered by the good old Snapdragon 625 octa-core. It is backed by a huge 4000mAh non-removable battery and is mentioned to give up to two-days battery life. On the rear, the device sports 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras. The base variant of the Mi A2 Lite with 3GB and 4GB will be costing EUR 179 and EUR 229 respectively.
