Xiaomi has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphones Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explore Edition today at its annual flagship launch event. The company also announced the all-new MIUI 10 with several new features and optimizations. Talking about the devices, the device will be coming similar design and hardware. However, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be sporting an in-display fingerprint sensor. While the Mi 8 comes with 3D curved glass back body, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition sport transparent glass body.
Both the devices come with a 6.21-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2248 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The notch display on this device offers 88.5% screen-to-body ratio. The display will be offering up to 600nit of brightness and 60000:1 contrast ratio. Under the hood, the devices come powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The Mi 8 is mentioned to have scored 301,472 on Antutu benchmark.
In the camera department, the Mi 8 comes with 12MP + 12MP AI dual rear cameras with dual pixel autofocus, 4-axis OIS, and 1.4µm pixel size. With the AI integration, these cameras can also auto-detect the scenes for better serving the image settings. For selfies, there is a 20MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.8 µm pixel size. Both the front and rear can capture portrait photos using the AI. The company is also offering studio lighting for portrait photography.
The notch on the top of the Mi 8’s display features earpiece, front-facing camera, proximity sensor, infrared lens, and infrared lighting. The Mi 8 also sports Dual-frequency GPS for more accurate location detection. Coming to Mi 8 Explorer Edition, it offers Face ID technology for accurate face recognition. While the Mi 8 is backed by a 3400mAh battery, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with a smaller 3,000mAH battery. Both the devices support Quick Charge 4.0+ & wireless charging.
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage and is priced at 3699 Yuan. On the other hand, the Mi 8 comes with 6GB RAM and will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. Coming to the pricing, the 64GB, 128GB, & 256GB storage variants of Mi 8 will be costing 2699 Yuan, 2999 Yuan, & 3299 Yuan respectively.
