Recently, Vivo launched its latest selfie-centric smartphone, Vivo V5 Plus in India at Rs.27,980. It comes with a 20MP and 8MP camera sensors on the front for capturing selfies with Bokeh effect. Last week, it also launched the entry-level Vivo Y53 with basic specifications. Today, it came with a new selfie smartphone called Vivo Y66 for the Indian market. The company first launched this device in China in December last year for 1498 Yuan. In India, it costs Rs. 14,980 which is almost same as the Chinese pricing.
The design of the smartphone looks similar to the previously launched Y series smartphones from Vivo with curved edges on the rear. It sports an all-metal body with a 5.5-inch IPS display on the front with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. There is also Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. It’s predecessor, Vivo Y55 came with a slightly smaller 5.2-inch display with the same HD resolution. Under the hood, the Y66 comes powered by MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, whereas the Chinese variant came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor.
There is a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory that can be further expanded up to 128GB using the MicroSD card slot. It is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Funtouch OS 3.0, and we can’t expect the latest Android 7.0 Nougat anytime soon. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE for using the Jio 4G SIM. The volume rockers & power button can be found on the right edge of the device, while the SIM card slot is on the left edge. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, A-GPS, USB OTG, 3.5mm Audio port, and MicroUSB 2.0 port.
In the camera department, there is a 13MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash that can record videos in Full HD resolution. For selfies, the Vivo Y66 sports a 16MP front camera with Selfie Softlight feature. It will be equipped with a 3000mAh non-removable battery that might give a day-long battery life. It measures 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.6 mm and weighs almost 155 grams. Vivo is also offering a protective case and a screen guard for free within the package. The sales of the device will start tomorrow, and it comes in Rose Gold and Crown Gold color options.
Additionally, the company is also offering a six months premium subscription for Saavn music streaming service worth Rs. 550 for free. To get this free complimentary subscription, the user needs to open the Saavn app on their new Vivo Y66 smartphone. Then a new Saavn Pro Offer Page will appear on the device, where the user needs to select the language and tap on the “Go Pro” button.
