UPDATE — Truecaller has finally launched its first VoIP calling feature — Truecaller Voice for Android platforms. Earlier the company has spotted testing this new feature on Android devices. While the new internet calling feature has reportedly was already available for premium users, the company has now started rolling out to all Android consumers. The new VoIP calling function will be pretty much identical to what we have seen on other messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Messenger, for instance. The Truecaller Voice calls are claimed to be clear, crisp, and of high-quality, according to the company. This new feature adds to the current Truecaller features that include — CallerID, Smart SMS, Mobile Payments. This is a staged rollout across the country, so Android users could expect the update coming to their devices sometime soon.
Earlier (13/06/2019) Truecaller has been launched as a callerID service to the consumers with a mobile app that syncs contacts across the phones to determine who’s calling. The Sweden based app had later introduced UPI Payments service called Truecaller Pay across India as well. And it appears the company is set to bring another essential feature to take on the most popular messaging platform in the country — WhatsApp.
Truecaller is said to be testing a new service called Truecaller voice, according to a report form TelecomTalk. As the name suggests, the service said to be VoIP calling service similar to what we have seen on other messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Google Duo. The report indicates that the new service is currently being tested by the company and is also available for select Truecaller Premium users as well.
The report cites that they have spotted these new features on the devices like the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, which are running on Premium Truecaller accounts. However, it appears to be not functioning right now on other OnePlus devices, and it is still unclear whether it is only available for Android devices at the moment.
So far, if you are a Truecaller Premium member using an Android phone, you might get the chance to try out this new Truecaller Voice feature on your respective app right on the caller profile within the app. Needless to say, since it is voice over internet-based calling service, it is certainly free but uses your mobile data similar to WhatsApp, for placing calls.
As stated earlier, it is currently in the testing state for select Truecaller premium members only, and we can expect the complete rollout for all the consumers regardless of the mobile platforms i.e., Android/iOS in the coming months. While most of popular apps out there and the majority of messaging apps on your smartphone may have already integrated this the voice over internet calling feature, we have to see what the new Truecaller voice feature brings to the table.
