Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Announced as a Smaller Powerful Version of Flagship Z3

The compact series for Sony has given bigger success than what the Mini devices for the other brands such as Samsung have given, and this is largely because Sony hasn’t cut down on the performance and there has always been only a reduction in the size of the device. The Snapdragon 800 chipset that was used in Xperia Z1 was the same when a compact version of it was launched. The story continues, Sony announces the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact alongside the new flagship Xperia Z3 smartphone.

The shrinking in size is not much, because you get to see a 4.6-inch display while the Z3 has a 5.2-inch display size. There is nothing different in the internal core specifications, as the Z3 compact comes with the same 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor (it was 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 in Xperia Z2) and there is 2GB RAM (Z3 has 3GB) along with it. Even the waterproofing is the same, i.e. IP65 and IP68 (learn about IP certification).

While the size of the screen is reduced to 4.6-inch, there is a reduction in the resolution as well, as the Xperia Z3 compact will have a 720p HD display. This doesn’t make it any bad, and the Xperia Z3 gets the grace at least here. For many, the 720p can be a deal breaker, but hey, you are buying this for the size and not everything can be fitted in the same fashion. After all, you are also paying lesser for sure when compared to the flagship.

The 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the rear side of the Xperia Z3 compact has the same stuff which the flagship has got, and that includes even the 4K video recording. The front side has a 2.2MP camera for selfies, while Sony has incorporated the stabilization technology for the rear camera which makes the video recording even more stable, adding to the Steadyshot technology. The ISO sensitivity has been increased to super-sensitive 12800. Running the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS, the device runs the custom UI which Sony has been layering over the OS since quite long.

The Z3 compact comes with 16GB internal storage and one can expand the storage with MicroSD card by a maximum of 128GB. That is quite a good addition to the features already included. The device comes with 2600 mAh battery and another reason why we don’t see the 1080p display here is simple – the battery capacity isn’t the same, thus it could have gone down faster.

The availability of Sony Xperia Z3 compact is around fall this year, and it is coming in four colors – White, Black, Red and Green.
