Sony Xperia R1 & Xperia R1 Plus with 5.2″ Display & Snapdragon 430 SoC Launched in India

Sony has launched two “Made in India” smartphones under the new Xperia R series in India. Both the Sony Xperia R1 & Xperia R1 Plus comes with the similar design. Apart from the RAM and storage, the devices also pack the same specifications. Both the devices come in Black and Silver color options and will be available starting November 10th. The company will be selling these new devices via offline and online stores. While the Xperia R1 costs Rs. 12,990, the Xperia R1 Plus is priced slightly higher at Rs. 14,990.

Talking about the specifications, the devices sport a 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display with a 2.5D curved glass on the top. Under the hood is the 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz that comes coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. The Xperia R1 offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the Xperia R1 Plus packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is also a dedicated MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage additionally up to 128GB.

In the camera department, the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus include a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP wide-angle front camera for selfies and video calls. The devices run on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and the company promised to release the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device.

The devices measure 146 × 73.2 × 8.89 mm and weighs 154 grams. Both the Xperia R1 & Xperia R1 Plus are backed by a 2,620mAh non-removable battery, which might not last more than a day of usage. At a price range of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000, there are many options with much better hardware. You can find the devices like Moto G5S and Lenovo K8 Plus offer better value for money and pure Android UI.
