Samsung Galaxy On7 Vs On7 Pro Smartphones Comparison

In order to compete with the emerging markets, smartphone manufacturer’s have to stay updated with the ongoing trend. On the same lines, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung, has launched the new Galaxy On7 Pro in India, which is a successor to the existing Galaxy On7, which was launched last year. So the question is, how good is the new one as compared to the older variant when it comes to day-to-day performance. Let’s find out.

Design:

When it comes to budget smartphones, Samsung has always managed to prove us that they build some good looking phones even if it not priced like other premium devices. The design is simple yet elegant here and looks excellent considering the price point. Not to mention the fact that the new Galaxy On7 Pro looks exactly identical to the last year’s Galaxy On7.

The new Galaxy On7 Pro also has the plastic back which has a rubberized texture; that feels good in the hand giving it a nice grip to hold on to. Thanks to those curved back edges, it fits perfectly in the hand despite the fact that it has a 5.5-inch screen. All the button, as well as the ports on the Galaxy On7 Pro, have exact same placements as found on the Galaxy On7.

Display:

Again the display on the new On7 Pro is exactly similar to the one found on the Galaxy On7 last year. It is the same 5.5-inch 720p TFT panel, which is not great by any means. 720p on a 5.5-inch display is not going to look the best if not worst. It results about 268 pixel per inch, which makes raises a lot of question on the quality of the image. This year, at least we expected the company to ship with AMOLED panels but they again went for the TFT option, and there is nothing much to expect here.

Hardware:

Coming to the hardware side of things, it is not surprising to see that the new Galaxy On7 Pro is using the same chipset used in the Galaxy On7 as well. It is the same exact Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at the same 1.19 GHz. The memory is bumped up to 2GB a compared to the 1.5GB found on the Galaxy On7. The internal storage on the Galaxy On7 Pro is of 12GB, which is an upgrade from the Galaxy On7, but both of them have microSD card expansion option. So in terms of performance here, both the devices are going to yield similar results in day-to-day usage.

Software:

The Galaxy On7 Pro runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with Samsung’s custom TouchWiz UI on top of it. The Galaxy On7, on the other hand, runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, which may or may not be upgraded to Marshmallow. If you are coming from any previous Samsung device, then getting used to the software here is not going to be difficult. Even though it has a few customization options and some functionality, the TouchWiz UI is nowhere near to stock Android and is quite heavy on animations as well. Everything feels a little bloated, even though it is not as bad as it was a few years ago.

Camera:

Even on camera optics, both devices feature the same cameras with a 13-megapixel rear facing shooter and 5-megapixel front facing selfie shooter. There’s nothing much to talk about as we have already covered a detailed camera review of the Galaxy On7 before. So be sure to check it out for more detailed look. On comparison, both of them looks identical to one another given the shots that we took in the same environment. The camera software is also similar offering the same settings as found on the other Galaxy smartphones, so again getting used to it is not going to be an issue.

Battery:

Well, you guessed it right. The battery on the Galaxy On7 Pro is also of the same 3,000 mAh capacity. So performance wise it is going to be identical, given the fact that all the other specifications of the device are also the same. It offers some software features like normal power saving mode and an ultra-power saving mode, which can get you more out of your battery when you are having a busy day, and you need to retain more power.

Verdict:

So once again, Samsung has launched a smartphone, which is exactly similar to its predecessor. During comparison, we reached a point to where we thought, why did they even launch another smartphone if there was nothing much to change. Apart from the addition of few software features like S-bike mode and the Ultra data saving mode, there is nothing much to dig deep here. So considering the prices at which these two retails, the existing On7 retails for about 10,000 INR and the new On7 Pro retails for 11,190 INR. Well, it will be a wise option to stick with the current On7 and maybe wait for the next variant, if the company decides to launch that in the future. Which smartphone are you planning to pick?
