Earlier: Aug 20, 2015 –
Samsung is the company that launched a wide range of smartphones in the early days of Android OS to the present day. It is now followed by local manufacturers like Micromax, Intex and few others launching new smartphones every month. Earlier we have seen, Samsung launching Galaxy A, Galaxy E and Galaxy J series of smartphones powered by Android and Tizen-powered smartphones with Z series.

According to the latest leak, the company will launch two new smartphones with model numbers SM-G550 and SM-G600 under a new series called ‘Galaxy O’. The devices SM-G550 and SM-G600 will be launched as Galaxy O5 and Galaxy O7. The devices under Galaxy O series will be virtual reality based smartphones in collaboration with Oculus Rift.

Galaxy O smartphones are expected to debut at Oculus Connect2 event that will be held in Hollywood from September 23-25. It will be interesting to see Samsung betting big on the virtual reality. The company already has a VR headset launched last year in partnership with Oculus for the Galaxy S6 smartphone.

All this series of smartphones along with the company premium range of smartphones under Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series has to be targeted towards specific users for better results. Launching too many devices will not help the company to maintain its no.1 position.

This where Xiaomi has done well, it has Redmi devices priced at low cost and also by offering better value for money specifications. The Mi phones are the company’s flagship devices with almost half the price of flagships from other major brands.

Let’s see which consumers are targeted for this new Galaxy O series of smartphones. Since the Galaxy A series comes with slim profile device with full metal body, while the Galaxy E features almost same specs as Galaxy A series but with little compromises on build quality. At last, the company established the Galaxy J series smartphones as camera-centric phones by adding front-facing flash to the recently launched Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7.
