Updated, July 16th, 12:49: Samsung is hosting a launch event in New Delhi today, where the company is going to launch two of its new handset in the country. The Galaxy J5 and J7 are the two new mid rangers that are coming to India. Originally announced in the month of June, these devices are the new portfolio in company’s J Series of smartphones. The J5 is priced at Rs. 11,999 and Rs. 14,999 in the country and would be available for pre-order starting 4PM today. Note these are Flipkart exclusive devices.
Initially, thought to be limited to China only, these devices were touted as the selfie smartphones in the China. But in India, Company is presenting these handsets as gaming devices for mid-range smartphone consumers. So, if you’re in the market for the lookout on affordable gaming devices, these might be the good options to consider.
Moreover, the company has partnered up with Gameloft to provide five pre-installed games like Asphalt 8, GT Racing 2, Modern Combat 5, 6 Guns and Spiderman Unlimited. As well as users would also gets Game Credits worth Rs 3200, which is for four games excluding “Spiderman Unlimited”.
Earlier, June 19th,11:59: Samsung has just announced a couple of new smartphones in the “J” series, and while these are not any power-packed devices, they are specifically aimed at users who love taking selfies. This announcement doesn’t come as a surprise, as the phones were in leaks since quite some time, and only the official announcement was awaited. Going on sale this week, the Galaxy J7 and J5 are limited to China right now, and might be entering the other markets in the coming days. Let’s talk about each device.
The Galaxy J7 has a 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution, and it is more powerful than the J5, as it has the Snadragon 615 processor along with 1.5GB of RAM, and the battery in the device is a 3000 mAh one. It will run Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, and while there is a 13-megapixel F/1.9 camera on the back of the phone, the front has a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens selfie camera assisted by an LED flash.
Available in black, white, and gold, the Galaxy J7 from Samsung is priced at 1,798 CNY (just below $300).
As said, this is not as powerful as the J5, though it still comes with the same camera combination. The J5 offers a 5-inch 720p display, and under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.5GB of RAM. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, and will carry the same color options – black, white, and gold. The price set for J5 is 1,398 CNY (around $225).
There is no word about its availability in the other markets, but we expect to see these pretty soon. The Galaxy A5 had similar specs to the J5, and the A7 had a better resolution but the same screen size and processor, when compared to the J7.
