Forget punch-hole, Samsung already has plans for a Perfect Full-Screen Display

Samsung has newly launched the Galaxy S10 trio of smartphones; all of them featured Samsung’s new Infinity-O displays. These displays were enormous, especially on the S10 Plus that also featured punch-hole cameras on the front at the top right corner of the screen. While Samsung believes that it has undoubtedly skipped the notch to achieve a full-screen display by implementing the punch-hole displays, which itself is a milestone, a new report has revealed Samsung’s further plans to make a perfect full-screen display.

According to Yonhap News Agency report, Samsung already has plans to make a perfect full-screen display without any punch-hole for the camera or a notch. Yang Byung-Duk, Samsung’s Vice President of the Display R&D department, has stated that the new full-screen display without any punch hole or whatsoever can surely be possible in a couple of years. According to him, it can be achieved through a new technology wherein the selfie camera hole will be invisible under the display without losing any key functionalities of the camera. Further, this perfect screen can be achieved by hiding the other required sensors such as proximity and 3D sensors beneath the display.

Yang had also stated the new Galaxy S10 screen’s Hole display is indeed not a solution for achieving a full-screen display, but this is the only technology available, at present and is considered to be an achievement by the company by putting the hole in the OLED display itself. Furthermore, Yang has further stated the company is also working to develop Crystal Sound OLED display, that utilizes the screen to act as a double speaker. This isn’t surprising as the competitor LG had already showcased this technology had also implemented in its latest flagship – the LG G8 ThinQ.

The companies like OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi have already made it possible by implementing pop-up cameras or slider phones, which appears to be not an ideal solution to have a perfect full screen, still. The other options would be a dual screen setup, as we have seen on the new Vivo Apex smartphone. Samsung’s upcoming plans to achieve this perfect full-screen display looks promising, and hopefully, these no notch or punch hole displays would take over the future of these smartphones. Until then, we would still be seeing these notch or punch-hole displays and also the pop-up camera phones as well.
