This is that time of the year where almost all the popular flagships of all the major tech giants have been released. Apart from Apple and Huawei all the other flagships would feature the latest Snapdragon processors. Having said that there are reports coming up on the upcoming Snapdragon processors for next years’ flagship phones and mid-range devices.

Firstly, the flagship processor – the Snapdragon 8150, the successor to the current SD 845 is expected to be on the new generation ‘Kryo’ cores. And, this processor would most likely be of a 7nm process, competing against Apple’s A12 Bionic and Huawei’s Kirin 980 SoC. The new SD 8150 is also rumoured to have two cores + two cores + four cores setup instead of the conventional 4 high powered and 4 low powered setups.

Secondly, a new report from WinFuture suggests that accompanying this flagship processor Qualcomm would also be unveiling its two mid-range chipsets as well – the Snapdragon SM6150 and the Snapdragon SM7150. It appears to be there’s change in the name game here since all the 800, 600, 700 series now carry a four-digit naming 8150, 6150 and the 7150.

As for the mid-range processors, the report suggests that both are octa-core SoCs most likely based on ‘Kryo’ CPU cores. Both the SoCs are expected to be 11nm structured. The report further explains that the SM6150 is slated for mid-range devices in the lower price range and the SM7150 SoC would most likely be catered to mid-range devices and above.

The reason for this implementation is that the SM6150 only supports FHD+ display (with 2160×1080 pixels) while the SM7150 is for QHD+ displays (with 2880×1440 pixels), as stated in the report. The report further reveals that both the mid-range chipsets can support 12MP+13MP cameras on the rear, while the front camera support can be up to a 20MP sensor.

The SD 675 has recently been released as a drilled version of SD 670 by Qualcomm catered to mid-range devices. However, the chipset makers new approach for the mid-range segment can only be seen after their release next year right after the launch of flagship Snapdragon 8150 processor.
