Last year, Polar announced the V800, an extremely powerful GPS running watch which came with built-in activity tracking as well. However, the standout feature about this device would offer-up Pebble-like smartwatch notifications.
But unfortunately the company didn’t have the developments resources, which would have allowed them to fulfil this promise. So, apparently, the latter feature was iced in order to in favour of the watch’s swimming features. Now almost a year later, however, and the company is finally ready to deliver on that promise.
It would be like the famous e-paper watch, so beloved by pretty much everyone, any notification that can appear as a banner on your phone’s screen. For instance, tweets, e-mails and SMS, will push over Bluetooth to the V800.
Moreover, users will also able to accept or reject calls using the scroll up and down buttons on the right hand-side, and it will also vibrate on alerts/notifications. Even though, the Polar is a fitness-focused company, they have tweaked the new software update that it when you are out on a run or any other activity, every notification will be suspended except for the incoming calls. Company also hopes to provide the Google Maps integration and offer up directions in form of texts when you’re running in a foreign land.
The software update , which will enable the V800 to become a smartwatch as well as a fitness tracker will drop at some point in the first three months of this year. It also looks-like company is creating more of a platform rather than just individual different products, as the new update is also said to arrive on its other models like M800 and even possibly on the new A300 after that.
Though, there are no details available whether it will increase the battery life of the device or not. But it can be imagined that the new update will drop the current battery rating, although, it would be a small price to pay as you will only need one device on your wrist.
