Phicomm entered the India smartphone market in June 2015 by launching its first smartphone Passion 660 for Rs.10,999. The company partnered with Amazon India to sell their products online exclusively through them. Today, Phicomm launched a new entry-level 4G LTE device called ‘Phicomm Energy 653‘ in India for Rs.4,999. The Energy 653 along with ZTE Blade Qlux 4G becomes the cheapest 4G device available in the current market.

Under the hood, it has a Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz coupled with Adreno 304 GPU and 1GB RAM. There is 8GB of internal storage that can be further expandable up to 64GB via a microSD card. It has a 5-inch HD (1280×720) IPS display with some good viewing angles.

Coming to the camera, it sports an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera. It is a dual SIM device with 4G LTE support along with other basic connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS and microUSB 2.0. The device sports a 2,300mAh battery and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based company’s own Expect 5.0 UI.

The device measures 144 x 70 x 8mm and weighs 125 grams. It comes in the colors – White and Black and is available exclusively on Amazon India. At the same price, the Energy 653 offers far better specifications than ZTE Blade Qlux 4G. If your are looking to buy an entry-level 4G LTE device, then the Energy 653 will be offering good value for money.

The company also announced $1 million of investments in India and will be setting up an R&D center either in Gurgaon or Bengaluru. The decision will be finalized by the end of September and will be able to function by the end of this year. The center will have 50 employees, and they will be working on software customization and localizing the themes.
