OPPO’s Foldable Smartphone Patents Appear Online

The year 2018 happened to be an all notch display phones in the smartphone industry – thanks to Apple (iPhone X) and the Essential phone for introducing them, back in 2017. There are loads of phones globally with all kinds of notch designs, which might change next year as many smartphone manufacturers around the world are geared up to launch their foldable smartphones.

The new evolution has been started already when Samsung demonstrated their first foldable smartphone – the Galaxy F at their developer conference a couple of weeks ago. However, OPPO seems to be joining the foldable display bandwagon next year.

OPPO’s foldable phone patents have been filed in China, and the patents have been surfaced on the web recently. A new report showcasing OPPO’s foldable smartphone patents suggests us that the Chinese manufacturer might be using Samsung’s foldable technology with their upcoming foldable smartphone.

While Samsung and Huawei are coming up with their foldable patents, OPPO seems to be going with this new approach, according to the report.

As for the patents surfaced, they showcase a tablet-like device, which can be folded into a regular smartphone. It seems to be very much identical to what we have seen on the Galaxy F foldable phone. But, there’s a catch here, not everything about these patents resemble the Samsung’s Galaxy F.

While Samsung’s foldable phone had only one display when folded like a regular smartphone, the OPPO’s patent shows a flexible display, which when folded gives you display on both sides, similar to the Flex Pai smartphone that had been launched before Samsung’s foldable demonstration, this month.

The report further suggests that there are four different variants of the OPPO’s foldable smartphone patents. The camera arrangements differ on each design of the four patents showcased; however, the camera lens on all the four patents appears to be the same.

Lastly, there’s isn’t any evidence on which of these OPPO’s foldable patent products will foray into the commercial market next year. Needless to say, as they are still patents filed, design elements of the final product, which may or may not released can be changed accordingly.

After Flex Pai successful foldable smartphone launch, Samsung will follow with its foldable smartphone release next year. Further, we would see Huawei’s 5G capable foldable smartphone launch followed by the OPPO as well, the report suggests.
