Obi Mobiles is a smartphone brand founded by John Sculley, ex-CEO of Apple. The company started its operation India in 2014 by rebranding and selling the Chinese devices. In early 2015, it had stopped this business model and was relaunched as ‘Obi  Worldphone‘ and launched two new smartphones that are designed by Robert Brunner who had worked as industrial design director at Apple for nearly a decade.

The company began selling both these smartphones in middle-east countries and few selected Asian countries. Now the company is targeting India as their next big destination. While the company’s line-up includes two devices namely Obi Worldphone SF1 and Worldphone SJ1.5, it had chosen to launch only the SF1 model in India.

Talking about the Indian launch, Neeraj Chauhan, Co-Founder and CEO of Obi Worldphone, said, “We plan to launch Obi Worldphone in India within this month and are committed to work relentlessly to enthral consumers with our innovations in design, state-of-the-art technology and high standards for manufacturing to deliver inspiring products that overturn the general assumption that great design has to come at a high price.”

The SF1 is the high-end device among the both, it sports a 5-inch Full HD display along with Gorilla Glass protection on top of it. The device is powered by the Snapdragon  615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and comes in two variants with 2GB/3GB of RAM. The 2GB RAM variant will have 16GB of built-in storage while the internal storage on 3GB RAM variant will be doubled up to 32GB.

It also has a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to a maximum of 64GB. The device also comes with Dolby Surround 7.0 technology and includes the dual mics for noise cancellation. On the camera front, it has a 13MP rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and dual LED flash, on the front it comes with a 5MP selfie camera accompanied with front-facing flash for better selfies even in the dark.

The dual SIM device also supports 4G LTE and offers other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It has a 3,000mAh battery that can give up to 28 hours of talk time and lasts up to 20 days on standby. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop based on customised Obi Lifespeed UI.

The 2GB RAM variant of SF1 costs only $199 (approx Rs.13,200) while 3GB RAM variant costs $249 (approx Rs.16,500). It will be available in White, Black, and Red colors. As of now, there is no exact information about the launch, but the device will be launched before the end of this month. Stay tuned for more information.
