As expected earlier, HMD Global has announced the successors to their first generation budget smartphones. However, there are no flagship Nokia device announcements on the stage. Even the Nokia X6 smartphone recently launched in China with notch display is also skipped at the ongoing lunch event. We have seen the all-new Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 5.1 smartphones.
The all new Nokia 2 (2018) comes as the successor to the last year’s Nokia 2 smartphone. Just like its successor, the Nokia 2.1 also comes with a long-lasting battery life. It newly sports front-facing stereo speakers for surround sound effect. On the front is the 5.5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. Since it is running on Android Go, the Nokia 2.1 offers just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
The device backed by the same 4,000mAh battery which is mentioned to give 2 days of battery life. Talking about the cameras, there is an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies. Considering the budget price tag, the Nokia 2.1 comes with polycarbonate shell. It will be running on Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition out of the box. It comes in Blue Copper, Blue Silver, and Grey Silver color options. The Nokia 2.1 will be costing $115 and will be available starting July 2018.
The Nokia 3 is the company’s one of the best selling smartphones. Today, the Nokia 3.1 was announced as the successor to Nokia 3. It comes with the metal body with the diamond cut design. The Nokia 3.1 will be the most affordable smartphone to embrace the 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes with a 5.2-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is the 64-bit MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz.
In terms of optics, the Nokia 3.1 sports a 13MP camera on the rear with PDAF and an 8MP selfie camera on the front with 84.6-degree wide-angle lens. It comes in Blue Copper, Black Chrome, and White Iron color options. The device comes in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage respectively. The device is ready for shipping and will be available for €139 and€169 for the 2GB and 3GB RAM variants respectively.
The new Nokia 5.1 comes with the 6000-series Aluminum unibody design. While the Nokia 5 came with a 5.2-inch 16:9 display, the new Nokia 5.1 sports a bigger 5.5-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is the all-new MediaTek Helio P18 octa-core processor. It comes in 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB variants. There is a 16MP camera on the rear with PDAF and LED flash. For selfies, the Nokia 5.1 offers an 8MP front-facing camera with 84.6-degree wide-angle lens.
It is backed by a 2,970mAh non-removable battery. The Nokia 5.1 will be running on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and joins the Android One family. It comes in Sanding Copper, Temper Blue, and Black color options and will be available starting July 2018. Coming to the pricing, the Nokia 5.1 with 2GB and 3GB RAM will be costing €189 and €219 respectively.
