New update to Telegram brings Option to add nearby Contacts, Host Local Communities & more

The last few updates for Telegram app was mostly based on privacy and now the application is getting a new update with version 5.8 which will be based on improving local contacts without having their phone numbers. This update lets you add people nearby from the contacts section and even the other person has to do the same. The user can also create local groups based on where you are and you will be asked to add a name to the group and you also have the option to add an image similar to what we can see with few other messaging apps.

The changelog mentioned along with the update includes adding any users to contacts even if the phone number is not visible. For this, the user needs to go to the contacts section from the app and add people nearby to see and add people who also have this selection open. This won’t work if both of them have not opened the selection and also the other person has the option to reject the invitation if they do not want to be added to someone’s contact list.

If there is any community activity in your colony or apartment, you can create location-based group chats and discuss the event and how to organize it along with sending invitation easily. You can also give the leadership or the admin access to other contacts from the group to share the burden of managing the group or even if you wish to take a break. This feature can also be found on the popular messaging app WhatsApp.

The new update also brings toggle message previews for the specific chats and the user can also search and delete all messages or chats with the new tool in Notification Exception. The update can be downloaded from the Play store and you can start using it once you receive the update. Do you use Telegram as your primary messaging app? What are the other messaging apps that you use? Let us know by commenting in the section below and stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more.
