All the major smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, Sony, LG, and Huawei will be launching their new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress that will be held from February 27th to March 2nd in Barcelona. While Samsung is skipping the launch of its flagship smartphones, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus; LG and Huawei had already confirmed to launch the LG G6 and Huawei P10 smartphones. Coming to Sony, the company will be holding its press conference on February 26th and is expected to unveil five new smartphones. At last year’s MWC, the company came up with the new X series by launching the Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance smartphones.

While there is clear information about the Sony smartphone that will be launched at this year’s event, a new mid-range smartphone codenamed Pikachu is spotted on GFXbench. It comes with a 5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. We expect this to be the successor to Sony Xperia XA which also came with the same 5-inch HD display. The Xperia XA2 or the Xperia XA 2017 comes powered by the MediaTek Helio P20 (MT6757T) octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and coupled with Mali-T880 MP2 GPU. It also packs 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Last year’s Xperia XA came with Helio P10 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.

Talking about the cameras, there is a 21MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. According to the listing, it can record video only at Full HD resolution. There is also an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The earlier leaks suggested the Xperia XA2 to come with a 23MP rear camera and a 16MP front camera. It runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. We expect the device to support dual SIM dual standby along with expandable storage option using the hybrid SIM slot. The device comes with a bunch sensors including Accelerometer, Compass, Proximity, and Light Sensor. While the Xperia XA lacks the fingerprint sensor, we expect the company to offer at least on its successor. Connectivity options on this device include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC.

Recently, a few images are posted on Weibo which are expected to be of the Xperia X2, the successor to Xperia X. The It comes with 4GB of RAM and will be the company’s flagship. Earlier to this, the Sony flagship smartphones came with only 3GB of RAM. As the company’s press conference is 10 days away, we can expect more leaks to follow in the coming days. However, the official specifications along with device names will be known only the launch day. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details about the upcoming Sony smartphones!
