New OnePlus 5G Device to launch globally, this year, CEO Pete Lau confirms: Report

OnePlus is gearing up to unveil a new OnePlus 5G device globally by the end of this year. Yes, the company’s CEO Pete Lau has confirmed the same with an interview with the Financial Times. According to Lau, despite the company’s latest OnePlus 7 Pro 5G device launched in the midst of May, it has been exclusive for the European markets. To expand the 5G capabilities and to take on Samsung in the US, OnePlus is prepared to launch its new 5G device by the fourth quarter of this year.
This interview of the CEO comes after the recent reports of OnePlus collaborating with Sprint carrier to bring its new 5G capable phone in the US. While the precise details of the device haven’t been revealed, then, CEO Pete Lau’s new interview further supports the same. The FT report has also revealed Mr. Lau indicating the company’s focus on developing 5G technology by next year with better performance capabilities. And, this new device is expected to open more 5G markets apart from the UK.
As stated earlier, this new OnePlus 5G phone would be the second 5G phone from OnePlus to be launching in the same year after the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G in the UK market. This approach appears to be familiar with what Samsung has done with its Galaxy S10 5G and the recently launched Galaxy Note 10 5G series as well. CEO Pete Lau further believes the next premium phone in 2020 would mandatorily be equipped with 5G technology and also believes most ‘tech-savvy’ people would prefer the 5G device due to its faster download speed capabilities.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has further revealed the company’s upcoming much-anticipated ‘TV’ plan, which is also expected to support 5G in the near future. For those unaware, OnePlus has recently announced its TV’s moniker as the OnePlus TV, which will be Android-based. More details of the OnePlus TV are expected to be revealed soon.
With its flagship OnePlus 7 series, which have been successfully launched this year already, we could expect its incremental upgrade, i.e., the OnePlus 7 ‘T” series coming in the last quarter as well. There could be a possibility that this new 5G OnePlus device could be launched along with the ‘T’ series, which are expected to launch in a couple of months from now.
