Microsoft Lumia 540 Dual SIM

Microsoft’s sub-$150 range sees yet another smartphone, the Lumia 540 Dual SIM, which was announced for a price of $149 and the device will be coming into the major markets early May 2015. The Dual SIM smartphone with Windows Phone 8.1 (Lumia Denim update) has a 5-inch HD resolution display, along with some basic specs under the hood.

“The Lumia team is passionate about product-making, creating every smartphone with a distinct design personality within a coherent design approach,” said Iain Pottie, senior design manager of Industrial Design and Mechanics at Microsoft. “Our customers are the source of so much inspiration, but we know they have different needs and budgets, so we always want to provide choice. That’s why today we’re introducing the new Lumia 540 Dual SIM.”

The Microsoft Lumia 540 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor (1.2 GHz quad-core), along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage that gets a MicroSD card slot for expansion to 128GB. The camera combination seems decent for the price, as the Lumia 540 Dual SIM has an 8-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens for selfies. The Windows Phone UI comes with the Lumia Camera and Lumia Selfie apps for the enhanced camera experience with options.

There’s a 2200 mAh removable battery packed in, and the Dual-SIM smartphone has 3G connectivity alongside other options to stay connected. Both the SIM cards can be given profiles, and there is standby and call forwarding feature provided. The 15GB OneDrive storage is a part of the package, and upon activating auto-upload feature, 15GB more storage will be added to the account.

The Lumia 540 Dual SIM is upgradeable to Windows 10 later this year, although Microsoft makes it clear that although the update, there is no guarantee on all Windows 10 features to be available in the Lumia 540, due to the limitations. Unlike the Lumia 640 XL, there is no word on whether the Office 365 subscription will be given for free.

The IMEA and APAC regions will get the smartphone during early May, along with the entry in Italy, and the price is set at $149.

Update, May 14th 2015: The Lumia 540 Dual SIM is officially launched in India, carrying a price tag of Rs. 10199. The phone goes on pre-order today, and the sales will begin on May 18th.

The offers that come along, include an Airtel offer where the data will be doubled for a time of two months. Paytm is offering cashback of Rs. 1000 (Rs. 200 per month for five months), Ola offers customers cashback of INR 800 on Ola money recharges (for Rs.200 cashback per recharge for the first four recharges of Rs.500 or higher). The Lumia 540 Dual SIM users will also get a 2 months free subscription on Gaana.com including unlimited music downloads.
