Micromax has just announced a new smartphone, the flagship Micromax Canvas Sliver 5, at an event in Delhi. The device is quite slim and light, with just 5.1mm thickness, and weight of 97 grams. Having an aircraft grade aluminium for the side frame, the device does looks sleek.

The Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 comes with a 4.8-inch HD AMOLED display, with the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The touch sensitivity screen is integrated into AMOLED to make it thinner (by about 34%), and around 30% of battery saving, according to the company.

For a flagship, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor won’t seem the best to choose, but if we talk of performance, the chipset has done quite well with both, normal usage as well as with gaming. It is a 64-bit chipset clocking at 1.2 GHz, and you also get 4G LTE capability due to this.

8-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX219 sensor with a blue filter glass, and it has a professional mode (lets control white balance, ISO, EV and a few other options) in the camera app. It is a stacked CMOS sensor from Sony that is being used for the back camera.

Dirac HD Sound and NXP Smart Power Amplifier are included for the sound enhancement. The Canvas Sliver 5 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it has a 2000 mAh battery packed in. The internal storage in the Canvas Sliver 5 is 16GB.

Let’s talk about the pricing – it is priced at Rs. 17999, and for that price, this won’t really be the best device to get. There are several devices at this price that can be called much better, at a cost of thickness. For example, the Xiaomi Mi4 just got a big price cut, and is Rs. 14999 with Snapdragon 801, though storage is limited. The sales of Canvas Sliver 5 will begin in the first week of July.
