Meizu M3 Note Vs LeEco (LeTV) Le 1s Smartphone Comparison

Lately the smartphone industry has been witnessing a lot of mid-range handset sporting some heavy duty specifications, especially the regions like China and India. With many Chinese companies setting up there operations in India, the country has seen tremendous competition in the affordable pricing segment. Now with Meizu, another Chinese brand announcing a handset like M3 Note has taken that level to much higher. The device that was launched in China at 799 Yuan, the 2GB variant (there is a 3GB RAM model also), is now slated to appear in India quite soon.

We are comparing the competition of the Meizu M3 Note in India, which was started against Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and now we are putting it in ring with LeEco Le 1s, another worthy mid-range handset that offers brilliant specifications for a considerably affordable pricing.

Note: The Meizu M3 Note we have is a Chinese unit, so it doesn’t have the Google Apps like Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, etc., pre-installed. But when this device would be launched in India, it would be coming up with all the Google apps. Don’t you worry about it, guys!

Design

There is a craze among smartphone manufacturers, they are now offering an all metal bodied design handsets, which not only makes smartphones stylish and attractive, they also feel premium in hand, as well as said to be sturdier than their polycarbonate counterparts. The M3 Note is a big upgrade in design when compared with M2 Note, its successor. It has a thickness of 8.2mm and weighs 163 grams. While comparing the thickness with Le 1s, it is much thinner at 7.2mm, although, little heavy on weight at 169 grams.

Display

Sporting a 5.5-inch 1080p display, the M3 Note and Le 1s have same sized display, thus the pixel density on them is equal as well. Moreover, they also use the similar IPS (In-plane Switching) display panel technology, although, Meizu handset has a 2.5D curved glass which sets it apart from the LeEco handset. But when you consider the viewing experience, it’s quite similar experience, so it doesn’t much matter, who is the winner here, they both offer good displays.

Hardware

This is quite tricky, they both sports processor from same manufacturer, the MediaTek, but have different processor, which has a lot of similarity, though. The Helio P10 is powering on the Meizu M3 Note, which is an Octa-core processor and clocks at 1.8GHz, it is the same chipset that comes in Gionee S8. Said to be one of the powerful mid-range chipsets, it has a support of 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Meanwhile, you also get an option to go with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage on this handset is expandable. In terms of fingerprint sensor, it is integrated on the front home button, unlike the rear side on the Le 1s. The LeEco device is powered by Helio X10, which is the flagship chipset of the MediaTek clocking at 2.2GHz. It is supported by a 3G of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, there is not a 2GB variant for this handset. And unfortunately, the storage can’t be expanded on this handset.

Software

Regarding the software part, they have their custom launcher running on top of the Android version they are based on. The M2 Note has a Flyme 5.1 OS< which is based upon the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Whereas the eUI 5.5 launcher on the Le 1s is based on the Android Lollipop 5.0. Out of these two brands, LeEco is known for delivering the frequent updates, as it has rolled out many OTAs since it was launched. Out of the box it came with eUI 5.1, but not you will see it on the eUI 5.5. Unfortunately, Meizu hasn’t promised anything like that and with a history of not offering frequent updates, we can’t be sure whether company would send out fixes to its users anytime soon after users report the issues.

Camera

They both offers 13-megapixel modules on the device as the main camera, while supported by an LED Flash. As well as they both boasts PDAF (Phase Deection Autofocus) technology for their respective camera modules. It can’t be said which is the manufacturer of their modules, but Le 1s has a support of Samsung ISOCELL technology and a blue glass infrared filter. They have different f numbers (aperture), while Meizu handset has an f/2.2 aperture; the LeEco handset has an f/2.0 aperture. The smaller the number, the larger intake of light it can capture. Moreover, Le 1s can shoot 4K video recording, which is not possible on the Meizu handset. The front facing cameras on both the handset are similar at 5MP and offers similar outputs.

Battery

The battery capacity on the Meizu handset is quite large at 4100mAh when compared with the 3000mAh on the LeEco smartphone. Now it is no way to determine the best out of them, but M3 Note certainly has a great battery life when compared with Le 1s. Moreover, if you’re sure that you don’t like to carry around the travel adapter with you, then USB Type C port on this handset is certainly not the way you would want to go. Though, do make a note that it has the fast charging feature, unlike the M3 Note.

Verdict

The price point would play a big role when the Meizu handset launches in India, as the 3GB RAM variant would be directly competing with Le 1s smartphone. If you’re looking for better display protection and large battery capacity, then Meizu handset should the choice once it launches in the country. But if you want a good software experience and want the latest software updates, then eUI 5.5 on the LeEco smartphone would offer that, while M3 Note doesn’t offer good UI experience. The choice is yours!
