Taiwan-based chipset maker MediaTek has announced its new Helio series chipsets for smartphones that are focused on gaming — the Helio G90 and G90T, where the G stands for gaming. These new gaming-oriented chipsets from MediaTek come with latest GPU and CPU cores that can be found on the latest flagship chipset ‘Kirin 980’ made by Huawei, while the latter is based on a 7nm process the MediaTek’s Helio G90 series is built on 12nm process.
The new Helio G90 is an octa-core processor that has clock speeds of up to 2.05GHz with Arm Cortex-A-76 and Cortex-A55 paired with Arm Mali-G76GPU with speeds of up to 800MHz. In terms of memory, these new chipsets support LPDDR4x RAMs of up to 10GB. As for optics, the new Helio G90 series supports a single 64MP and 48MP sensors along with dual 24MP+16MP camera sensor. The connectivity options include Cat-12 4G LTE modes with speeds of up to 1Gbps.
MediaTek has announced this new Helio G90 gaming series chipsets as entirely AI-powered with support for AI facial recognition — for authentication as well. Since the company has focused on gaming exclusive chipsets with these new series, the G90 chipsets are paired with the Taiwanese company’s HyperEngine gaming technology to enhance the gaming session during the smartphone gameplay. Particularly, with games like PUBG or Fortnite, the new chipsets are capable of delivering peak performance, and smoother gameplay claims the chipset maker.
The HyperEngine Game technology, apart from gaming it also brings Intelligent Network prediction engine that is said to optimize cellular connection and further comes with Dual Wi-Fi support as well. It will also improve the touch response and makes it accurate and lag-free touchscreen input with the help of Rapid Response Engine. The photos captured with the help of the aforementioned camera sensors, the picture quality of the image is said to appearing with vivid color and detailed enhancements including HDR 10 as well. The HyperEngine also has Intelligent Performance control feature that will help in more enhanced and high-performance gaming on your smartphone.
Lastly, the new Helio G90 series is said to be the first chipset series in the world that are capable of recognizing two virtual assistants like — Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. This is said to be possible due to integrated dual wake-up support on the chip design. The chipset maker MediaTek has recently announced this new gaming powered Helio G90 and G90T chipsets, which are likely to be targeted to higher mid-range or top tier smartphones that will be released in the second half of this year.
Xiaomi has already announced that they would be launching a new gaming smartphone featuring the newly launched Helio G90 and G90T chipsets.
