LeTV LeMax 2 Smartphone rumored with 6GB of RAM & Snapdragon 820 Processor

There isn’t exactly the need of more RAM on our smartphones, as far as I know 2GB RAM smartphones can offer good performance while using them as daily drivers. Take an example of iPhone 6S, which offers excellent performance for just 2GB RAM. While this year, Android manufacturers are running to win the title of the most amount of RAM. We saw many smartphones this year that arrived with 4GB RAM such as Asus Zenfone 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, OnePlus 2, etc.

Now we are hearing some fresh rumours that LeTV, a Chinese entertainment specialist is going to come up with a smartphone packing whooping, 6GB RAM. Yes, you read that right. The same LeTV brand that recently confirmed to launch the first Snapdragon 820 processor powered device is coming with this unusual amount of RAM on a smartphone.

The brand is still a rookie in smartphone business just like OnePlus, but has claimed to achieve 1 million sales milestones in record time, beating any other new OEM. Company has three smartphones in the market right now, Le 1, Le 1 Pro and the Snapdragon 810 powered LeMax phones.

This has to be the same smartphone that was alleged to come with Snapdragon 820 chipset when company teased about it on their official HongKong Facebook Page. It is hard to digest that a device with 6GB RAM is coming sooner than expected.

Last month we learnt that Samsung has already started mass producing a 12Gb LPDDR4 RAM chips using 20nm process technology. Just like they first introduced the 8Gb chips, which made 4GB RAM smartphones possible. Now these 12Gb chips would allow smartphones to pack as much as 6GB of RAM.

If you seem to be confused about above numbers and you think they don’t add up correctly. Then you should note the difference between lowercase and uppercase ‘b’. Gb stands for Gigabit whereas GB stands for Gigabyte. And that 12Gb chip would hold up to 1.5GB RAM> Now by pairing 4 such chips together, a whooping 6GB of RAM can be achieved on a smartphone.

While it is hard to believe that Samsung might let other companies steal their show next year, it is quite possible that company might be supplying their new mass produced 12Gb chips to LeTV. Our reason to believe that Samsung did same with their 8Gb chips as they offered it to OnePlus, which introduced OnePlus Two before the launch of Samsung’s own 4GB RAM smartphones; the Note 5 and S6 Edge+.

Note that LeTV is not a small brand to fool around; the company has been running successful Video business for more than a decade now. And this would be a great opportunity for the company to steal the show from brands like OnePlus, who claimed they have launched a flagship killer of 2016. Wait till you see smartphones raining with 6GB of RAM next year.

What is your take on this rumor? Would you buy a smartphone with 6GB of RAM? Let us know in the comments section below.
