We have a bunch of smartphones that are certified rated for waterproofing. The new Galaxy S7 Active being one of them. However, there are claims that the device is not very protective against water. But, now we have a new smartphone in the market, that has a similar IP rating, and this device won’t cost you as much as the other smartphones do. The new device from Kyocera is a mid-range device that comes under affordable segment with all the waterproofing goodness.
The new Hydro shore comes with an IP57 rating. Staying true to its name, the Hydro Shore is certified for IP57, which means the phone can immerse itself in water up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes, as well as protect itself against dust. You can use the display even when it is wet, although the company suggests wiping the screen dry before use. But looking at the other specifications of the device, it is clear that it does not fall into the high-end category.
It comes with a 5-inch 960 x 540 resolution display, which is not bad by any means since the size is not that big and you would get a decent pixel density. It is powered by a .1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset and is packed with 1GB RAM. It offers only 8GB storage out of the box, but it can be expanded via a microSD card up to 64GB. The internals is powered by a 2,160mAh battery. But unfortunately, the device only runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is again not bad but it would have been better if it came with 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
This device is not here to fight with any flagships, but it will be a great option for those who are looking to hit the pool or the beach for summer and can still rock their smartphone. Moreover, it won’t cost you as much as other flagship do. The phone will be available through AT&T’s GoPhone no-contract service for $80. So definitely it worth taking a look for the price. Stay tuned for more information.
