Huawei Unveils TalkBand B5 SmartBand That Doubles Up as a Bluetooth Headset

Alongside the Huawei Nova 3 smartphone, the company also announced the TalkBand B5 smartband today in China. While the official launch is scheduled for July 18th, both the products are now listed on Chinese e-commerce websites. Just like the Nova 3, the company hasn’t yet revealed the pricing of the TalkBand B5. While the company has tasted success in the Wearable segment with its Wear OS-powered Huawei Watch, the TalkBand device targets a small niche of smartphones users.

The new TalkBand B3 will be the successor to TalkBand B3 which was first launched in April 2016. As seen with its predecessor, the new TalkBand B5 smartband also doubles up as a Bluetooth headset. While the basic design remains the same, the minor changes are clearly visible. While the sports version sports rubber strap, the premium looking business and fashion versions come with leather and stainless steel straps respectively. The users can also replace with any other 18mm straps.

It is built on RTOS and can be paired with Android and iOS smartphones. The TalkBand B5 sports 1.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 300 x 160 pixels resolution and 2.5D curved glass on the top. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 for sharing data with smartphones. It comes with a built-in 108mAh battery that is rated to give more than 3 days of usage or 6 hours of talk time. It got the basic functionalities of the fitness tracker like counting steps, distance, and calories burnt.

Additionally, the TalkBand B5 also has continuous heart rate tracking and sleep tracking support. It is also water resistant, thanks to the IP57 certification. The band can also detect six different type of exercises including outdoor running, indoor running, outdoor walking, outdoor riding, indoor cycling, and free training. When paired with the smartphones, the band can also include the GPS data within the fitness data. It also sports dedicated triple-core audio chip and dual mics for making HD voice calls.

The TalkBand B5 also shows the caller ID while receiving calls. The users need to pair with the smartphones using the Huawei Sports app and it also includes community support. The Huawei smartphone users can also use the Talkband B5 for capturing photos remotely. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details
