Huawei P30 and the P30 to receive DC Dimming support through OTA update: Report

Back in March, Huawei has launched its latest premium smartphones – the Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro in China, which later was introduced in India as well. The flagship smartphones, which feature the beautiful AMOLED screens are said to be receiving a new update – a leaked screenshot suggests. These phones are said to be getting a DC dimming feature which is supposedly a new way of screen dimming for those AMOLED panels on the latest flagships.

A new leaked screenshot of update changelog has suggested the new DC dimming feature update on the Huawei P30 series. The screenshot has further revealed the upcoming firmware update is said to be around 401MB and will be rolling out in the Chinese markets, at least for now. It is possible the rollout to Huawei P30 series in other regions will also likely roll out after this initial release.

For those unaware, DC dimming is the new screen dimming feature being adopted by smartphone manufactures, which is said to be replacing the current PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) method for decreasing the brightness of the screen. In the latter, the screen dimming feature was considered as an easy way to control the brightness, however, had its drawbacks such as screen flickering, eyestrain for users using these OLED display phones.

Well, this is where the new DC dimming feature is said to come into play. With this new feature, the screen brightness can be controlled by varying the power supplied to the circuit. The DC dimming feature changes the power that is being provided to the display panel, further allowing to adjust the screen brightness as well. This technique has been used by LCD displays on smartphones earlier too. The DC dimming feature will be rolling out to Huawei P30 series smartphones in China, according to the new screenshot leaked. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more such interesting updates.
