Google has scheduled a launch event for a new Pixel device on May 7th (May 8th as per IST) in Mountain View, California. We are expecting the company to unveil the long-rumored Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphone. Now, the leaked press render of these affordable Pixel smartphones confirms the launch date as May 7th. As seen in the previously leaked CAD renders and hands-on images, the Pixel 3a devices can be seen with 18:9 display with bezels on the top and bottom. Google is also bringing back the 3.5mm audio jack with these devices. In the above-featured image, we can see cut-out for it on the top edge. Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge.

Just like the premium Pixel devices, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL also come with Active Edge feature. As per the earlier leaks, the Pixel 3a will be coming with a 5.6-inch Full HD+ (2220×1080 pixels) AMOLED display and 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 670. On the other hand, the Pixel 3a XL sports a larger 6-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) AMOLED display and 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platforms. While the display on the Pixel 3a offers 18.5:9 aspect ratio, the one on the Pixel 3a XL comes with 18:9 aspect ratio. We clearly notice, the Pixel 3a XL looking slightly wider than the smaller Pixel 3a. Both these devices offer 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

In terms of optics, we might be looking at a 12.2MP camera on the rear and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. With these mid-range devices, the users get the same Pixel 3’s rear camera which offers better results than the devices with triple camera setups. The Pixel 3a smartphones will certainly dominate the camera department in the mid-range segment, especially the Night Sight mode will make them unbeatable in low-light photography. Considering the cheaper price tag, these devices will miss out the Pixel 3’s stereo speaker setup. However, the device will be running on the latest Android 9.0 Pie and offers the same Pixel experience.

Along with the other Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 3a smartphones will be the first smartphones to receive any major updates at least for the next couple of years. From the beginning, the company has an exclusive partnership with Verizon to sell the Pixel devices. With the Pixel 3a devices, Google might end its exclusivity with Verizon and start selling the Pixel smartphones on AT&T. We need to wait for the official announcement to get more clarity over this. Talking about the pricing, the recent leaks revealed the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a XL to cost CAD 650 (approx USD 490 / INR 33,500) and CAD 800 (approx USD 600 / INR 41,500) respectively in Canada. The company will also launch the Pixel 3a smartphones in the Indian market. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
