At the MWC 2016 held in Barcelona, Gionee unveiled its flagship smartphone Gionee S8. It is the company’s first smartphone to feature 3D Touch display. Though it is announced to launch in few European and Asian markets, later its availability is limited only to the Chinese market. Now the company has officially launched its successor Gionee S9 with few impressive upgrades. The design and most of the specifications are already revealed with the TENAA listing. However, now we got the official specifications along with pricing and availability information. It sports an all metal body with rounded edges and slightly bumped out rear cameras.
The Gionee S9 sports a 5.5-inch LTPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. It lacks the AMOLED panel which is frequently seen on high-end Gionee devices. Under the hood, the device is powered by the year old MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and coupled with Mali T860 GPU. This is the same processor that also used in the Gionee S8. The S9 includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be extended till 128GB via MicroSD card slot. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Gionee’s in-house Amigo 3.5 OS.
Coming to the USP of the device, it has dual camera setup on the back featuring 13MP & 5MP sensors. While many smartphones brands launched smartphones with dual cameras either on the front or back; the Gionee S9 is the first smartphone from the brand to offers dual cameras. For selfies, there is a 13MP front camera which can capture decent images. The device kept powered on by a 3,000mAh lithium ion battery that can give at least day of mixed usage. It measures 154.2 x 76.4 x 7.4 mm and might feel slightly heavier by weighing 168.2 grams.
The connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It is priced at 2499 Yuan (approx $365 / Rs. 24,700) and will be on sale starting from November 25th only in China. The device will available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Black color options.
