The Google Camera app is one of the best 3rd party camera apps for any Android smartphone. However, the app is officially available only for the Google smartphones. last month, we got a forked apk of the Google Camera app for installing on most of the high-end Android smartphones. Now, the same apk is updated to bring in a bunch of new features including the RAW & Full HDR+ support. The forked Google Camera app also comes with stability fixes for hassle-free usage. Since the forked version is based on Qualcomm’s Hexagon 680 DSP, the app will not work on smartphones powered by Kirin, Exynos, and MediaTek chipsets.
With Full HDR+ support, the user can make several customizations. The app also brings in the Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL), but it might not work when using Forced HDR+ option. Once the HDR+ option is enabled from the setting, reboot the device just to make sure that app will not crash in the future. Follow the same procedure after any changes to the HDR+ settings. Digging through the settings, you can also find the option to enable RAW support. Once enabled, the device will save the DNG RAW files along with the normal JPG file.
With the RAW files, it’s easier to tweak the images for making look even better. Talking about the customizations, the user can change the buffers size, imagereader image count, burst frame count, and many other. The user can even enable the settings for showing the warning for dirty lens. While most of the flagship smartphones share the same camera sensors, the post processing will make the real difference to the final output. With this app, the user with any smartphone can get the best-in-class captures.
