Free Smartphones to Low Income Residents of UP under Samajwadi Smart Phone Yojana

With India being on a path of becoming truly Digital in the coming period, it is the services such as Reliance Jio, Digital India initiative by the government and various other schemes that are helping the country become a leader one day with the digital revolution.

In the wake of Digital India, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav has announced a new scheme on such line to provide free Smartphone to the residents of his state of governance. The individual whose income is less than Rs 2 Lakh per annum are said to be eligible for it.

The scheme is called Samajwadi Smart Phone Yojana, under which the distribution of smartphones would begin in the second half of next year. It is the time during which assembly polls would be over. The announcement is seen as a proclamation freebie since it is being lined with election polls.

Whatever may be the reasons, if people of the country is receiving such facilities then it is advantageous for the digital growth. We aren’t here to discuss the politics, but about the technology. Talking about it, the smartphones would be equipped with the latest technology and thus offer decent smartphone experience. We don’t expect the devices to be fancy, but at least useable in many sense.

According to the statement issued, these mobile handsets would be provided to individuals who are 18 years or more of age as on January 1st, 2017. Moreover, the criteria are that no family member should be in government service.

The registration for the scheme is said to begin in a month while handsets would be circulated only in the second half of 2017. CM expressed in a statement that his government started the world’s biggest free laptop scheme for Class 12th pass outs, which is said to be the game-changing idea as they truly ushered in a digital democracy.

Further, it was noted that the device would be equipped with a set of apps that would be quite resourceful to users. Such as there would be an app providing information regarding government’s latest schemes and how residents can make use of the schemes. It will enable the government to interact with masses.

Interestingly, there would be apps to support farmers get information about the weather as well as learn about crop prices. While the youths can apply for government jobs using the smartphone given by them. The students are all said to receive study materials in audiovisual formats.

Though, do make a note that only individuals with at least Class Xth standard school certification would be eligible for registration to get a free smartphone. Along with that, they must be the residents of Uttar Pradesh. The registration procedure is online, where a scanned copy of high school certification need to be attached.

Akhilesh Yadav said that they have distributed more than 18 lakh laptops to students and would ensure that their free smartphone scheme is also a tremendous success for the digital revolution. The officials said to quote that they are currently working on a system that would allow them to deliver smartphone directly to the resident’s home.
