DJI to Launch ‘OSMO Action’ on May 15th, Its First Ever Action Camera

DJI has scheduled a new product launch event on May 15th. The teaser image posted on social media only includes the text “Unleash your other side.” While DJI hasn’t revealed any details about its upcoming product, the latest leaks hint the company to introduce it’s first ever action camera. It will be called as DJI OSMO Action and might compete with the GoPro Hero 7. Last year, the company launched the OSMO Pocket which is the smallest 3-axis handheld gimbal camera with 4k recording option.

Talking about the upcoming OSMO Action, the company doesn’t have much space to innovate on the design front. It comes with the lens protruding out of the rectangular boxy body. As seen on other action cameras, the OSMO Action also comes with displays on the front and rear. Talking about the leaked specifications, it sports a 1/2.3-inch 12MP Sony IMX377 CMOS sensor that comes f/2.8 aperture and 145-degree field-of-view.

While the GoPro Hero 7 comes with the in-house GP1 chip, the OSMO Action will be powered by the Ambarella H2 video SoC. Also, we don’t think DJI will be able to offer GoPro’s HyperSmooth-like Image Stabilization with its action camera. The OSMO Action can shoot up to 4k videos at 60 fps with HDR and includes shooting modes like automatic time-lapse photography, AEB shooting, countdown shooting, interval shooting, and more.

From the above-featured image, we can see the camera preview on the front display. With this feature, the users can shoot vlogs or capture selfies using the DJI OSMO Action. The GoPro Hero 7 Black comes with a Mono LCD display on the front which shows the details like time limit for video recording and battery status. Since the company is yet to confirm any of these details, take them with a pinch of salt. We will get the complete details including the pricing and availability on the launch date. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
