Digital Wellbeing is Coming to All Android One Smartphones Running on Android 9 Pie
At the Google I/O 2018, the company announced a new feature called Digital Wellbeing to track the user’s app usage time and give a new set of controls to limit their usage. It is introduced with the latest Android 9.0 Pie and is currently in beta. Till date, only the Google Pixel devices running on Android 9.0 Pie came with the Digital Wellbeing feature. While we sideloaded the apk to get the feature on Nokia 7 Plus and OnePlus 6 smartphones running on Android 9.0 Pie, Google now made the Digital Wellbeing available for all the Android One smartphones.
However, this new feature is only limited to Android One devices running on the latest Android 9.0 Pie. Just like the Pixel devices, the Android One devices will also get the Digital Wellbeing as a system feature within in the device settings. While sideloading the Digital Wellbeing APK on other Android 9.0 Pie-powered devices, the user will see it as an individual app. As of now, the Wind Down option within the Digital Wellbeing is working only on Google Pixel and Android One devices.
When the Wind Down option enabled, the phone screen will fade into grayscale and the night mode and Do Not Disturb will be turned on to help the user hit the bed. The user can see the time spent on a particular in the past and limit their usage in the future by putting time restriction. Google also introduced a ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode that does more than just silencing phone calls and notifications. As of now, there is no information when the Digital Wellbeing will come out of beta.
