Asus has been quite confusing while launching any new products. Today it has updated the earlier announced ZenPad S 8.0. The model number is changed from Z580C to Z580CA indicating as a separate device. Though both the tablets look same from outside, the Z580CA got few minor upgrades along with the increase in the price tag.
The internal storage has increased to 64GB, and RAM is doubled up from 2GB to 4GB. The thickness of the new tablet is just 6.6mm compared to 6.9mm of the Z580C variant, and the weight has been decreased from 317 grams to 298 grams.
Coming to the camera, the ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA has an 8MP rear camera instead of just 5MP and on the front the 2MP sensor has been replaced with a much better 5MP sensor.
The other specifications of the device remain same on both the tablets. Under the hood, it has a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz coupled with PowerVR G6430 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The tablet sports the same 8-inch 2K (1536×2048) IPS display with a pixel density of 324ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it.
The USB Type-C port on the Zenfone S 8.0 helps you to connect normal USB Type-A along with Ethernet adapters, keyboards, mice and others using adapters.The company also includes Z Stylus to provide natural writing experience. It can support up to 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and up to 1.2mm of writing tip.
On the front, apart from the display you can find the dual speakers with DTS-HD Premium Sound technology. It runs on latest Android 5.0 Lollipop based Zen UI. Connectivity on this device includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1 LE along with GPS/GLONASS. The tablet measures 203.2 x 134.5 x 6.6 mm
Earlier the tablet is priced at $299 in the US and can be purchased from Amazon, Newegg, Asus Store and few others. But the Asus Z Stylus will be available from early September at Asus Stores for $29.99. The company hasn’t mentioned about the pricing of the tablet for European markets.
