Asus is all set to launch its mighty successor to its current ROG phone — the ROG Phone 2 with a launch event scheduled on July 23 in China. Since it’s a gaming-centric smartphone, the company has partnered with Tencent Games to make its next powerful gaming smartphone for the consumers. While the launch is imminent next week, the first live images of the much-anticipated phone have been surfaced online.
The upcoming Asus ROG Phone 2 Hands-on images have been leaked on the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo. Alongside the first hands-on image, the Weibo post has also revealed that the new ASUS ROG Phone 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855+, which was recently unveiled by the chipset maker. This means the ROG Phone 2 would be the first device featuring the improved Snapdragon 855+ processor. For those unaware, the Snapdragon 855+ processor is an incremental upgrade for the company’s flagship 855 SoC. It is said to be having significant CPU and GPU improvements with clock speeds of up to 2.9GHz and 15% GPU improvements respectively.
Apart from the new, improved chipset, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is also confirmed to come with the new 120GHz refresh rate display, which is the first in the industry featuring on a smartphone. The recently launched OnePlus 7 Pro had a 90Hz refresh rate AMOLED display. However, the phone also appears to offer the 60Hz and the 90Hz display modes as well. The leaked hands-on images of the ROG Phone 2 reveal a familiar design – with front-facing stereo speakers, and minimal bezels can also be seen on both sides of the display.
