ASUS Officially Confirms to Launch ROG Phone 2 in Partnership with Tencent Games

Later this year, ASUS will be launching the ROG Phone 2 as the successor to the original ROG Phone. There are rumors that the company will be partnering with Tencent Games to better optimize the upcoming gaming smartphone. Today, the company has launched the flagship Zenfone 6 smartphone in Taiwan. During the launch event, ASUS also officially confirmed about its partnership with China-based Tencent Games to launch the ROG Phone 2.

Tencent Games is the publisher of the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile and will soon release the Call of Duty Mobile which is currently in public beta. The parentship between these two companies will help in further enhancing the design and optimizing the gaming functionality to make it a better a smartphone for mobile esports games. Apart from confirming the strategic partnership, the company hasn’t revealed any other details about the ROG Phone 2.

As per the earlier rumors, the new gaming smartphone from ASUS could be launched in Q3 2019. The first-gen ROG Phone came with a diamond-cut design and included a backlit LED logo on the rear. On the front, it came with a 6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with HDR playback support and 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device came powered by 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform overclocked at 2.96GHz.

It is packed with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 2.1 Flash Storage. In terms of optics, the ROG Phone sports 12MP + 8MP  dual camera setup on the rear and an 8MP single selfie camera on the front. The device is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery and supports 20W ASUS HyperCharge technology. It came with two USB Type-C charging ports – one on the bottom edge and the other one is side-mounted for charging the device while gaming.

On the side edge, there are two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers. With the ROG Phone, ASUS also added Aura RGB lighting and Aura Sync support on a smartphone for the first time. The company is also providing an additional accessory called AeroActive cooler for extra cooling while playing games for longer durations.
