Update – Sept 9 : Apple has finally launched the new Apple TV, which has been in the waiting line for a serious upgrade since the third generation. The new TV from company focuses on the apps, as Tim Cook confirmed the App Store connectivity is available on it. The 32GB variant is priced at $149, and 64Gb model is priced at $199. The new TV would be available to purchase in the late October.
Remote has a touchpad. And can also be used it as the game controller when turned sideways. So, you have gaming on your new TV. There are a touch surface and buttons on the new remote. And you guess it right; there is a Siri button too. Though, no power button on the TV, which is strange. You will have to swipe the remote to move left and right, and click to move forward.
Since Siri is here on the new Apple TV, we have the voice search introduced as the primary navigation. Universal search makes it quite interesting. You can find the James Bond flicks with Sean Connery.
The iOS app and features have been adapted for the large screen. It’s called TV OS, based on OS and built for your living room. Netflix, Hulu and HBO apps have been redone for the new UI on tvOS.

Coming to the specification, there is a new 64-bit A8 Chip installed on the new TV. It supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac with MIMO, IR Receiver, as well as Ethernet, Power and HDMI ports. The remote packs Accelerometer and gyroscope, three months per charge and Lightning connector to charge.
It has been already revealed by The New York Times and made official now that the first channel would be a fashion-focused. It would be developed by WME/IMG, a very well recognized entertainment company, which owns the New York Fashion Week. You’ll see classic fashion films as well as inside looks at WME/IMG shows, and original documentary series on designers and trends.
Earlier – Sept 1 : There is an expectation that we might see a new Apple TV announcement at the company’s event on September 9th. And most probably the device would have a bump in the pricing because it is supposed to come with some new features.
Currently, the device is priced at $69, and it might jump between $149 and $199, which would be a sizeable increase in the pricing. It would be the first time that Apple TV would be costing more than $100 in its five years in the market.
The market is flooded with cheap streaming devices like Chromecast, Roku, etc. To stay in the market, Apple would have to offer something worth having for on its next generation model. Though, 9to5Mac reports that company would continue to sell its $69 third-generation model as entry level variant for this year lineup.
Moreover, the report also suggests that we finally maybe seeing the announcement of Cupertino giant’s Internet TV service with this announcement. It would reportedly be coming to both new and older variant of Apple TV.
Though, it is not clear when that rumored service will be going live on the Apple TV. There were some troubles that company has been facing to make deals with several broadcasters.
Accounting to pricing, it is stated that we may see a lot of premium features on the new Apple TV. Like the new device might pack motion-sensitive remote control, which would act like Wii Remote, in further making more friendlier for streaming the games.
The Apple TV might come with the support for App Store as well as Siri, which would make a lot of sense if you view company’s invitation to the event. The event is just around the corner, so join us on September 9th for the live coverage of the event, where we would be setting up the live stream as well.
