Not long ago, Apple has unveiled a trio of new iPhones – the iPhone XS and the Xs Max and a new iPhone XR, which is the entry-level smartphone in this year’s smartphone. While specs across all the trio are identical, one of the significant difference in the iPhone XR, when compared to Xs devices is the camera. The iPhone XR features a single camera setup on the rear, unlike the iPhone XS and Xs Max. However, despite the single camera sensor, the iPhone XR had managed to get a top score in the DxOMark camera testings.

According to DxOMark, the iPhone XR scored 101 points, which the DxO states as the best smartphone with a single camera they have tested beating the last year’s Pixel 2 XL score. However, this year’s Pixel 3 XL also rocks a single camera, which hasn’t been tested by DxO yet.

As for the iPhone XR, it boasts a single 12MP camera with 1.4 μm pixels with an f.1.8 aperture along with OIS, PDAF and dual tone LED flash as well. DxO claims that the individual Photo score of the XR’s camera is 103 points, which is termed as excellent as per their standards. The score further reveals that iPhone XR captures images with very good exposure and dynamic range in bright light and indoor conditions. With vivid colors in most situations, the details are also well-preserved with iPhone XR’s camera, claims DxO.

While the single-camera powered XR shoots identical shots as the iPhone XS and Xs Max, regarding image quality, it draws behind with bokeh shots and 2X zoom shots due to the lack of second camera sensor, according to DxO Mark results.

Nevertheless, it still good news to Apple, despite the reports of unexpected low sales of the iPhone XR, its camera being ranked as number one in terms DxOMark rating would gain some attraction in the market.
