Xiaomi had launched its latest flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 on February 24 in China and at the same time, the company also showcased the device at MWC 2016. While the device is said to be launched in India, there is no specific date mentioned. But at the launch event of Redmi Note 3 in India, Hugo Barra confirmed the device to launch within the next month. Now the company has sent us the official press invite for the launch of Mi 5 in India on March 31st.

The device packs high-end hardware but comes with glass on front and back of the device that attracts lots of fingerprints. It sports a curved 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor. It has 3GB/4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and comes in three variants with 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB internal storages. We are expecting only the 32GB storage variant to be made available in India.

It packs a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4-axis OIS that can record videos at 4K resolution. On the front is a 4MP camera with the same f/2.0 aperture for capturing selfies even in low-light conditions. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the physical home button placed on the front. It runs on Android 6.0 Lollipop with the highly customized MIUI 7 laid on top.

The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that supports quick charge 3.0. Along with the Mi 5, the company also launched the Mi 5 Pro with Ceramic back panel. Ás of now there is information about the Mi 5 Pro availability in India. While the official launch event is scheduled for March 31st, the sale might begin from the second week of April.

As of now there is no information about the price of Mi 5 in India. But from the Chinese price of 1999Yuan, we can guess the 3GB variant of Mi 5 might cost around Rs. 23,000 in India. The Mi 5 with 4GB RAM which is now retailing at 2299 Yuan in China might come with a price tag of Rs. 26,000. Stay tuned for the official pricing and the availability dates of Xiaomi Mi 5, since the launch date is just three days away.

I guess it would be priced below 22k, else it won’t be competitive enough.
