Update – Today the Microsoft has officially unveiled the Windows 10 OS for Xiaomi Mi 4 in China. The recently announced Mi Pad 2 with Windows 10 OS is also expected to be launched sometime in December in China. Interestingly the Mi 4 devices with 4G LTE connectivity can only be able to flash the latest Windows 10 OS, which makes the Indian variant of Mi 4 that only supports 3G cannot be flashed with Windows 10 OS.
Currently, Microsoft is working on providing Windows 10 for Chinese Mi 4 users, and if they reach their expected target, then we expect the company to work out for the international launch. It is rumored that the Mi Note Pro will be next device to get Windows 10, but there is no confirmation from either Microsoft or Xiaomi. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming days
Earlier: Dec 1, 2015 – In March, Microsoft had announced that the selected Xiaomi Mi 4 users will be ale to preview the Windows 10 Technical Preview on their devices. Xiaomi at its Grand Finale event had launched the Mi Pad 2 tablet in two variants running on Android 5.1 Lollipop based MIUI7 and Windows 10. While the availability of the Windows 10 powered Mi Pad 2 hasn’t announced yet, but the company mentioned that will happen before the end of this year.
Today, company’s Founder and President, Lin Bin had posted an image on Weibo suggesting the Windows 10 for Xiaomi Mi4 will be officially launched on December 3rd. With this announcement, we can expect Microsoft to gain some increase in the Chinese user base. As of now, only the Mi 4 and Mi Pad 2 will be officially getting the Windows 10 OS update, and there are rumors about the Mi Note Pro also to get the Windows 10 build.
Talking about the device, the Mi 4 was first announced in July 2014 in China. It comes with a 5-inch Full HD display and is powered by Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor. There is 3GB of RAM and 16GB/64GB of internal storage with no MicroSD card slot. It comes with a metal frame with scratch resistant glass on front and back of the device.
It came with Android 4.4.3 Kitkat based MIUI6, while in August this year the company had released the MIUI7 update running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The device comes with a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP selfie camera and a non-removable battery of 3,080mAh capacity. After several price cuts, the 16GB variant of Mi 4 is now retailing at Rs. 14,999 and 64GB variant at Rs. 17,999.
