Reliance Jio Prime & 100 Million Customers Announcement Recap

Reliance Jio kick started its operations in India on September 5th, 2016 and its been a couple of months now since the official announcement. Currently, the telecom operator is offering free voice ad data to the users under the “Happy New Year” offers along with a couple of other services as well. Now that we are close to the end of the “Happy New Year” offer, Jio is all set to start offering the services with the tariff plans starting April 1st. However, the news of the hours is that the Reliance Jio’s customer base has crossed 100-million customer mark.

The Chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani has made the official announcement in the press conference today about the same. Jio customer base has crossed 100-million mark in just 170 days of the commercial launch which is a remarkable milestone by itself. This announcement is coming just a couple of months after the announcement of the telecom operator crossing 50 million mark in 83 days. According to Mukesh Ambani, around 7 were customers added per second to the network every day since the launch.

The Reliance Jio users together have consumed over 100 crore Gigabytes of data over the last 170 days which comes down to about 3.3 crore gigabytes per day. With that said, now India is No.1 in the world for mobile data usage. It has been reported that Jio India ranked 150 in mobile data usage in the world which pretty much indicates the huge role that Jio has played in achieving this milestone. Mukesh Ambani also stated that Lakhs of users have done Mobile Number Potability from other networks to Jio as well.

As mentioned earlier, Jio will start its tariff plans from April 1st as the “Happy New Year” offer is about to get over. Starting April 1st, all the domestic voice calls will remain free. There will be no roaming charges, no hidden charges and no blackout days as well. This is going to be a huge deal for most people who are currently facing these issue with other telecom operators. With that said, the real question is, will users continue to use Jio after the “Happy New Year” offer and if yes, then what is way forward?

Jio Prime Announcement

The Jio Prime is a service wherein all the existing customers of Jio or if you enroll for Jio before 31st March, will be able to enjoy all the benefits of the “Happy New Year” offer. This means you will be getting free 1GB data per day and all the Jio services like Jio Cinemas, Jio Music, etc. will remain free for another year. All Jio customers can enroll for the Prime membership for a full year with a nominal fee of 99 INR that has to be paid once. To continue using the benefits of “Happy New Year” offer, users will have to pay 303 INR per month. To break it down, it comes down to about 10 INR per day and with this you will be getting roughly 30GB of data per month.

Now the ultimate question remains if the company will improve up on the quality of services which they are offering or not since most people are still having issues with the network connection, etc. Let us know what do you think about this new announcement of the Jio Prime membership and would be getting the membership of not.
