After several leaks and rumors, the Microsoft Lumia 650 is now officially announced. Even few rumors also suggested the Lumia 650 will be the last smartphone under Lumia series to come with a 5-inch display. The Aluminium frame around the device gives a great strength while the matte back cover provides a nice grip to hold on to the device. Apart from the few matching specifications from the leaks, we can also find improvements in processor and camera.

The device sports a 5-inch HD AMOLED display with a pixel density of 297 ppi and Gorilla Glass 3 laid on top makes the display scratch free. It is powered by the latest Snapdragon 212 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and coupled with Adren0 304 and 1GB of RAM. The earlier launched Lumia 550 came with the same 1GB of RAM and but is powered by a Snapdragon 210 SoC while the Lumia 640 came with Snapdragon 400 SoC. There is 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded upto 200GB via provided MicroSD card slot.

Comparison: Lumia 650 vs Lumia 640

On the camera front, the Lumia 650 has an 8MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera with the same f/2.2 aperture. This certainly a good upgrade from the 5MP and 2MP cameras on Lumia 550. It is backed by a 2,000mAh removable battery which the company claims to give 16 hours of talk time and lasts upto 26 days on standby. The device will be available both Single SIM and dual SIM variants. The device runs on the latest Windows 10 OS and can be used for virtual payments via provided NFC.

Connectivity options include Cat.4 LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.  It also includes Microsoft’s AI assistant ‘Cortana’ which works same as Siri on iOS devices, but with the entry-level specifications, this device cannot support Continuum feature. The Lumia 650 feels slim and light in weight by measuring 142 x 70.9 x 6.9 mm and weighing 122 grams. It comes in two color options – Matte White and Matte Black. The device is priced at $200 and will be available in selected European markets starting from February 18th.

As seen with the Lumia 640, the latest Lumia 650 will be sold through Cricket Wireless in the beginning. While there is no exact date of availability, the will be hit the stores somewhere in April. There is no information about the availability or the pricing of this device in the Indian markets.
