Alcatel Idol 4 Smartphone with 3GB RAM & VR Support Launched in Japan

In the beginning of 2016, Alcatel has announced two new smartphones called Alcatel Idol 4 and Idol 4S. The Idol 4 was later launched in the U.S in August exclusively through Cricket Wireless. Now, almost a year after announcing the device, the company has now launched the Idol 4 smartphone in Japan. The VR headset comes with a decent build quality and interestingly, the company also used it for packaging the device and accessories. It is priced at 34,800 Yen (approx $320 / Rs. 21,500) and will be on sale starting from November 22nd. The device features 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

With the glass on front and back of the device makes it a fingerprint magnet. Apart from the volume rocker and power button, the Idol 4 also comes with one more physical button called as Boom Key. It can be customized in different ways like opening camera with single while the double-clicking can be used for another app. The 3.6W stereo speakers which are said to be developed along with JBL offers Hi-Fi audio output. It supports dual SIM dual standby with the hybrid SIM slot where the second slot can be used for either secondary SIM or MicroSD card.

Apart from launching the new devices, the company also came with a new name and logo which is now just called as Alcatel.

The Alcatel Idol 4 comes with 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display. It is powered by 1.7GHz Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB/3GB of RAM. Both the variants come with 16GB of internal storage and can be expanded via a MicroSD card slot upto a maximum of 512GB. It has a 13MP rear camera with dual tone LED flash and autofocus, and an 8MP selfie shooter with 84-degree wide angle lens and is accompanied by a LED flash too.

The device is backed by a 2,610 mAh battery that can last for a day of mixed usage. It offers dual SIM dual standby capabilities and supports VoLTE & VoWiFi for high quality audio calls even in low signal areas. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, WiFi Direct, OTG, GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0. The Idol 4 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. It measures 147 x 72.5 x 7.1 mm and feels light in hand by weighing just 130 grams.

  • Alcatel Idol 4S

Compared to the Idol 4, the Idol 4S comes with much more superior specifications. It features a 5.5-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1400 pixels) AMOLED display and is powered by Snapdragon 652 (earlier launched as Snapdragon 620) octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The device includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded upto 512GB via MicroSD card slot. There is a 16MP rear camera with dual LED flash and video stabilization that can also record slow-mo videos. On the front is the same 8MP selfie camera with wide angle lens and LED flash. The Idol 4S also runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery.

It measures 6.99 mm thickness and weighs 149 grams. As rumored earlier, both the Idol 4 and Idol 4s comes in a box that can also be used a VR headset.
