After postponing the launch of YU Yunicorn earlier this month, YU Televentures officially unveiled its latest smartphone today in New Delhi, India. The device comes with a metal body with a 2.5D glass on the front. It will be exclusively sold through Flipkart at a price of Rs. 12,999 for the first month and costs Rs. 13,499 from the second month onwards. The Yunicorn runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS called ‘Android on Steroids’ and will be updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in a month.
It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is powered by MediaTekH Helio P10 octa-core processor clocked at 1.95GHz. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded upto 128GB via MicroSD card slot. In the camera department, it has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The device is kept powered on by a 4,000mAh battery and is rated to deliver 20 hours of talk time and lasts upto 500 hours on standby.
The Around Yu 2.0 version also comes with integrated Wallet. It is also the first smartphone from YU to feature a physical home button on the front. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the home button that can unlock in just 0.2 seconds. It is a dual SIM device that supports 4G LTE and offers basic connectivity features. The device comes with DTS Sound support for the best audio experience. It will be available in Rush Silver, Rush Gold, and Graphite color options. The company is also planning to bring the Yunicorn to the offline markets in the next couple of months.
The Gaana app is the default music player, and YU is offering six months of premium subscription for free. From the design perspective, the device looks same as the Meizu M3 Note, which was recently launched in India at Rs. 9,999. The company also announced that the around two million YU smartphones are sold in 2015. Now in 2016, the company is expecting half of the sales from offline stores. The company is also planning to bring the Yunicorn to the offline markets by the end of next month.
